🏆IEM Rio 2023 kickoff is here 🏆

The date has arrived, and the Intel Extreme Masters Rio 2023 is here. One of the last top-tier Counter-Strike: Global events before Counter-Strike 2 arrives. In this article, we will read about which teams are participating, the tournament’s format, and predictions for the opening games.

What teams are participating:

  1. FaZe Clan (Ranked #2)
  2. Heroic (Ranked #3)
  3. Natus Vincere (Ranked #4)
  4. Cloud9 (Ranked #5)
  5. Vitality (Ranked #6)
  6. MOUZ (Ranked #10)
  7. FURIA (Ranked #11)
  8. FNATIC (Ranked #12)
  9. OG (Ranked #15)
  10. BIG (Ranked #19)
  11. Ninjas in Pyjamas (Ranked #22)
  12. MIBR (Ranked #24)
  13. TheMongolz (Ranked #27)
  14. Imperial (Ranked #28)
  15. 9ine (Ranked #35)
  16. 9z (Ranked #61)

On April 13, Virtus.pro made the announcement that they were going to withdraw from the tournament, after the poor form they showed on BLAST Premier RMRs. The Russian organization stated that “in the team’s current shape, participation in the tournament will not bring satisfaction to either the team or the fans”. This gave an opportunity to the homeboys, being Imperial the team replacing them. Let’s see if they can make history in their country and take advantage of an opportunity like this.

Tournament format:

We will first have a Group Stage with two groups and 8 teams in each group, with Upper and Lower Brackets, where the group 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will qualify for the Playoffs stage, which is a single elimination bracket. The opening matches will be played in best of one (BO1) format, and after the opening games, all matches will be played best of three (BO3).

First place for each group on the group stage will qualify directly to Semi-Finals, and second and third places will play against each other in the Quarter-Finals.
